Peter Gabriel Announces November Release for New Album o\i

Peter Gabriel has confirmed the full release details for o\i, a 13-song companion to 2023’s i/o. Arriving November 27, the new album completes an ambitious 25-song project and continues Gabriel’s tradition of combining music, technology and visual art.

Peter Gabriel has spent much of 2026 revealing his newest music one full moon at a time. Now fans finally know when they can hear the project as a complete album.

Gabriel has confirmed that o\i will be released November 27, 2026, with 13 tracks making it the longest studio album he has released. It arrives only three years after 2023’s i/o—Gabriel’s shortest interval between new studio albums since the early 1980s.

The two records are designed as companion pieces. Together, i/o and o\i form a 25-song project exploring themes including nature, technology, time and humanity’s place in a rapidly changing world.

An Album Built Around the Moon

Gabriel first announced o\i in January, beginning with “Been Undone.” Throughout 2026, he has continued the unusual release strategy he employed for i/o: unveiling new songs according to the lunar calendar.

The approach also gives listeners more than one way to experience the music.

Most songs receive both a Bright-Side Mix, overseen by Mark “Spike” Stent, and a Dark-Side Mix from Tchad Blake. “Who Are We Talking To?” is the exception, with Mike Elizondo handling its Dark-Side mix. A Dolby Atmos In-Side Mix is also being prepared digitally by Hans-Martin Buff.

The physical editions reflect that concept. Separate double-vinyl Bright-Side and Dark-Side versions are planned, while a four-CD hardcover edition will include both sets of stereo mixes.

Familiar Musicians Return

The credits also reconnect Gabriel with musicians who have been central to his solo career.

Longtime collaborators Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché contribute to the album, while Gabriel’s daughter Melanie provides additional vocals. Recording took place primarily at Real World Studios near Bath and The Beehive in London, with additional sessions conducted in the United States, France, Italy, Sweden and South Africa.

The official track list includes “Been Undone,” “What Lies Ahead,” “Put the Bucket Down,” “The Veil,” “Everywhere,” “Love Is a Journey,” “I Belong to the Sky,” “Face the Wall” and “Who Are We Talking To?”

The project also continues Gabriel’s practice of pairing individual songs with visual artists, extending the multimedia approach used on i/o.

Why ’80s Fans Should Care

Peter Gabriel’s solo career became inseparable from the 1980s.

After albums including Peter Gabriel III and Security established him as one of rock’s most adventurous solo artists, 1986’s So transformed Gabriel into a mainstream star. “Sledgehammer,” “Big Time,” “In Your Eyes” and the Kate Bush duet “Don’t Give Up” combined sophisticated production with pop accessibility.

“Sledgehammer” became especially important to the MTV era, with its groundbreaking stop-motion video becoming one of the channel’s defining clips.

Four decades later, Gabriel is still approaching albums as something more than collections of songs. The multiple mixes, visual-art collaborations and carefully structured release strategy surrounding o\i echo the experimental instincts that distinguished his work during the ’80s.

At 76, Gabriel isn’t simply revisiting the era that made him famous. He is still experimenting with what an album can be.
